The current explosion of the Internet presents numerous earning opportunities for dynamic, creative, and inquisitive young people. Among these, the YouTuber career is one of the hottest professions today, generating substantial and unlimited income for those passionate about entertainment and creativity.
1. The YouTuber Career – A “Fertile Ground” for Young People Today
YouTube is gradually becoming one of the most widely used platforms globally, with over 2 billion users of all ages. In Vietnam, YouTube has been around since about 2005, but it was only in recent years that the platform gained popularity, leading to an “explosion” in both the number of viewers and the diversity of content across various topics and fields.
Most of those venturing into this field are young individuals who are passionate about creativity and unafraid to challenge themselves, quickly building their careers with numerous YouTube channels boasting millions, even tens of millions, of followers. However, to attain such a large fan base requires significant effort. From investing time in researching content and filming to editing and posting, everything must be done meticulously. Additionally, it’s crucial to adhere to a regular video release schedule to maintain audience engagement and prevent viewers from waiting too long, which can lead to boredom, disappointment, and ultimately leaving the channel.
So, with all these efforts, what do creators gain? Unlike most other platforms, YouTube is not just a place for users to share their self-created content; it also allows them to earn money from their videos. This gave rise to the YouTuber profession, creating a completely new playground for everyone, regardless of gender, age, or geographic location.
2. How Much Money Can You Make as a YouTuber?
The income level of a YouTuber is a topic of great interest, widely discussed in many forums and major online news sites. However, due to YouTube’s commission calculation being relatively complex and varying based on several factors, there is no accurate data on the amount of money YouTubers earn unless disclosed by the creators themselves.
However, there are still ways to estimate the income that creators earn based on the number of views for each video. In the Vietnamese market, the income received for every 1,000 views ranges from $0.5 to $1.1, meaning that with 1 million views, one can earn approximately $800 to $1,100 (equivalent to about 18.4 to 25.3 million VND). This commission rate is significantly lower than in other Western countries, where it can reach $2,000 to $5,000 per 1 million views (46 million to 116 million VND).
In addition to revenue from views, YouTubers can also earn money through various other activities, such as affiliate marketing. They can include links to products or services in the video description to increase visibility and stimulate viewers’ purchasing decisions. The income received will be proportional to the number of successful sales made, with no limits.
Moreover, popular YouTubers can also earn money through brand sponsorships. Brands may approach them to advertise their products or services via their YouTube videos, compensating them with a fee based on an agreement. With these various income sources, well-known YouTubers can earn anywhere from hundreds to billions of VND each month. This significant income is something many aspire to, placing them on par with famous artists in the entertainment industry.
3. YouTubers with Huge Incomes in Vietnam
According to a Google announcement in 2021, streamer Độ Mixi’s YouTube channel topped the list of the top 10 YouTube creators in Vietnam with 4.45 million subscribers (as of April 2022, there were 6.23 million subscribers). The estimated income for this famous streamer is around 3.35 to 53 billion VND per year.
The second position belongs to the channel Trấn Thành Town, which is the personal YouTube channel of MC Trấn Thành with 5.5 million subscribers (2022), bringing him an estimated income of 1.6 to 25.3 billion VND per year. Another notable channel is Hậu Hoàng, famous for a series of humorous parody music videos that are highly entertaining and popular among young people, which can generate an equivalent income of 1.44 to 23 billion VND. The profession of Youtuber is considered one of the most attractive creative careers today. Creators can freely showcase their abilities, gain fame, and earn a lucrative income without stepping into showbiz. However, to sustain a long-term career in this field requires perseverance and serious investment; it’s not possible to achieve instant success in a short time. With the efforts, hard work, and values provided to the community, the money that legitimate Youtubers receive is completely deserved.
